Dana Moreau for
DuPage County Forest Preserve Commissioner, District 2

3 Core Priorities
Permanently Protect What’s Irreplaceable.
Keep Nature Free (in an otherwise "monetized" world).
Build a Healthier DuPage.
I’m Dana Moreau, candidate for Forest Preserve Commissioner, District 2. And like all those running I love nature and admittedly, have hugged more than one tree in my lifetime. But that's not the only reason I'm here. Nor why you should vote for me.
I’m running for Forest Preserve Commissioner because DuPage County’s forest preserves are an irreplaceable public trust. They belong to everyone, and once protections are weakened or land is compromised, the loss is permanent.
We simply cannot assume our forest preserves will always be safe. Across the country, even protected lands have been chipped away, monetized or quietly repurposed. DuPage can and must do better. That’s why my campaign is focused on locking in protections that last, keeping our preserves free and public, and ensuring they care for our residents and are cared for by the people best equipped to protect them.

01: Forever Protected
Binding safeguards that can’t be undone quietly
Forest preserves should be protected by more than good intentions. I will advocate for permanent, enforceable protections that make it difficult, if not impossible, for future boards to sell, lease or compromise preserve land. Protection should be structural, durable, and accountable to the public and not dependent on who happens to be in office. If DuPage takes the right steps, we can demonstrate for others what responsible stewardship looks like.
02: Keep Nature Free
Public land stays public with no monetization, no creep
Unlike most everything else in the world, forest preserves exist for people, wildlife and future generations and NOT as revenue streams. I will stand firmly against the monetization of our preserves and the slow creep of commercialization so people of all economic backgrounds and their families can enjoy them as intended.

03: Healthy Land, Healthier, Happier People
Nature as essential health infrastructure
DuPage’s forest preserves do more than protect nature, they support people. At a time of rising stress, isolation, and chronic illness, access to nature is one of the most effective and affordable tools we have to support physical and mental health. I support using our preserves as a complement to traditional healthcare through a variety of programs and also, partnerships with local healthcare professionals and organizations. It's time to formalize our role as part of the solution.
But do I have a plan for how to do this? Yes, more to come.
